I like listening to /report, even though I sometimes find myself disagreeing with them so fundamentally I have to stop myself from writing letters-to-the-editor style odes on Why You Don't Get It, It's Not Like That.

Finally, a letter I have failed to prevent myself from writing, and, bizarrely enough, it's not the No, I Disagree With Your Feminist Interpretation of Sherlock letter, but rather it's You Just Don't Get Loki!, a character I had actually not thought I cared that much about.

In the podcast, the /report crew argue that Loki's actions don't make sense, which, on the one hand, duh, and on the other hand, I disagree! So I am giving My Thoughts On Loki, a subject only slightly less important to the world than Yaoi.

( This is basically a braindump on the character of Loki, both as depicted in Thor, and The Avengers, and as interpreted by fandom. )

So, I went to see the Avengers movie (in glorious 2D) with aphelant, and it was basically everything I wanted.

Well, I mean, they could have replaced 20% of the explosions with random scenes of the Avengers doing each others' hair and sitting on couches together, and it would have been, literally everything I wanted, but it probably would have been indecent to be that happy in public, so perhaps just as well.

For reasons I prefer not to examine too closely, I've been reading a bunch of paranormal romances. (Curse you, downloadable library ebooks!) The more tawdry of them have a quirk of using "male" as an adjective to obliquely signify the arousal of the (female) POV character, as in (semi-made-up) 'for an instant, his gold-coin eyes blazed hot with male interest.'

You guys, "male interest"? I'm sorry, but if I try to think of an interest or way of expressing interest that is characterized by its maleness, all I can think of is an erection, and if you've got an erection blazing in your eyes... well, I dunno.

Having done a quick search for "male", here are the usages in this text:
( how many of these sound like a euphemism for 'erection'? )

I think it annoys me because these things are intangibles, and the text is using "male" to mean "sexy," but I guess maybe that's fair, given that this is het porn? Bah.
